Bumbling Along in April

It's been a cool start to the spring, but everyone seems to be getting into the swing of it now. I saw my first bumblebee of the season, which always seems like a good sign to me. For some reason we've had quite a blossom of henbit deadnettle this season, and the bumblebees seem to favor it.

I saw my first skink of the season, too - little tiny fellow:

I discovered the skink when I pulled back some dead grass (I was looking for asparagus shoots, which I also found). Last season we had quite a lot of rain, and the grass was all really happy, which made for some challenges in the garden.

The wildlife pond, perhaps, is the furthest along into the season, with tadpoles in great profusion already, hopefully eating any mosquito larvae that appear in their vicinity:

I posted the tadpole picture on Twitter, which is a habit I'm trying to break with this blog, albeit semi-successfully.
