Dicentra is Blooming

If you're used to the other kind of bleeding heart, this one looks a little weird. Some people around here call it "turkey corn" which I didn't understand until we had wild turkeys out pecking at it. I'm not sure why they gravitated toward that in particular, but they sure did.
Dicentra eximia makes a nice (if a little short) cut flower. It lasts in the vase at this stage, and will even open up a little more. It's glorious in the landscape, and it's native to our region. I plant it in the edge garden, and don't give it any special treatment other than making sure it's not completely overtaken by invasive vines. Lookin at you, lonicera.
