A couple days of warmth combined with spring rain have finally brought out the first of the daffodils. As a general rule, we like to order flowers at the moment they are blooming, and when there's nothing blooming, we like to order ones that would be blooming if we had them.
We selected our narcissus varieties mostly for their late bloom, on the hopes they would intersect with our delivery season, and that may actually happen this year. We're starting deliveries earlier and the daffodils are blooming later. But I miss having them early, so I'm ordering a few early varieties that we'll plant this fall. Really, I'm pre-ordering, because nobody has inventory yet.
Thankfully, there are other splashes of color getting ready for the big spring show. These hellebores aren't ready to cut yet (not until the seed has set), but every place I look their bright colors are peeking out from ragged winter foliage.
